Escaping the sin that holds us tight

To know God and to experience his love in our life is to find peace of heart.

I have been thinking about what keeps me from knowing that peace better. And I have found the following passage has prompted me to reassess my life

Give yourselves to God and then sin will no longer have any power over you — you are not under law, but under grace.
(Rm 6:12-14)

I suppose if we are very fortunate sin is not a problem to us. This is either because we are so holy that we don't sin or because we have no concept of sin and so merrily carry on leaving a trail of wreckage behind us.

But very often sin is the one thing that prevents us getting to know God or making progress in our spiritual life. But this passage seems to be saying that if we focus on God then sin is no longer so much of a problem. It is as though focussing on God makes us less likely to sin. I guess that is because God is love and if we are focussing on him his love is influencing us Sin is the opposite of love.

My prayer today both for you and also for me is that we might gradually learn to refocus our lives so that we may live in the grace of God.
